Hi!  My name is Dorothea Rose…Rose is my middle name and I share it with the beautiful rottweiler mix who shares my home, Samantha Rose.  Sammie for short.  I did not name her and she is not “my” dog.  I have had dogs that were “mine” and I have had dogs that were not “mine.”  Just because a dog chooses to cohabitate with you does not mean that dog belongs to you.  Sometimes you belong to the dog.  I belong to Sammie.

Sammie is a 157 lb rottweiler/unknown mix.  One hundred fifty seven pounds.  That means she’s a little overweight…ok…she’s a lot overweight…she’s fat.  And she must lose some of that weight for her health.

We’ve found there isn’t much support out there for a Dieting Dog and especially for the mean human who has to oversee said diet.  Sure, every dog food company around wants to sell you the latest weightloss formula.  And there are thousands of ‘tips and tricks’ from professionals.  But actual support from people who have experienced or who are currently going through the day to day drama that a doggie diet can be is in short supply!  Imagine trying to take food away from someone who cannot understand why you are doing it!  If you’re here, you probably don’t need to imagine!  It’s hard!

Nobody prepares you for the begging and the guilt that our four legged kids heap on us when we try to cut out some of their yummies that they expect to receive every day.  And they are so very skilled at heaping on the begging and guilt!

This is what we go through.  Every single day.  Wondering if we are giving adequate nutrition now that we are cutting portions, wondering if our poor babies are feeling the hunger because their little tummies are used to a larger amount, feeling like the meanest person on earth because we have to say “NO!” to those puppy dog eyes asking us for just one more little treat!

It’s ruff out there!  So Sammie and I decided to start this website/community and see where it goes.  Since the poor girl has to go on a diet anyway…and she’s going to be on it for quite some time.  We hope we can support a few other doggies and their people along the way!

So raise a bacon strip…and abracadabra…change it into a carrot or an apple slice with absolutely no flavor *big doggie sob* to cut down on calories…and let’s GO on our doggie diet!
